The Glory of Guruvayur(Guruvayur Mahatmyam) -  The city was named Guruvayur because Sree Guruvayurappan was consecrated by Guru Brihaspati and Vayudev in that place. The idol of Lord Vishnu, worshipped by Devaki-Vasudevar, followed by Lord Sreekrishna in Dwaraka, was found floating over the waters after the great flood(Mahapralayam). There are a lot more specialties for this idol. It is made of Anjana Shila, which is a type of rock that floats above the water. The length and breadth of the idol are almost equal, giving it a square shape. The age of this holy idol could not be determined, and the maker is still unknown. Vayudev and Guru Brihaspati search for a holy place to keep the idol; they find a perfect place where there was the presence of Lord Shiva; and Lord Shiva moves with Parvathy from there to Mahimayoor(Mammiyoor) happily, giving space for Lord Vishnu. So, these three important deities – Guru, Vayu, and Shiva, are brought in this painting.
